the reality of things

It's such a mystery why they come when they only ever leave.
We feel like they're the best thing that's ever happened to us, until it's over.
Then we finally contemplate what it was really like, what they really did to us.
We focus so much on the good that we completely ignore the bad.
Until the day when you find the one whose good overpowers the bad.
Until the time that you realize you still love them even when they nearly push you off the edge of your limits.
When you reach the point where it's not just an attraction, it's an understanding.
Complete acceptance.

I might not know just yet, but I will soon enough.

recognition

To an adult, it is easily overlooked.
To an adult, it is often left unchecked and remains hidden underneath the swarm of everyday stress.
Somehow they have forgotten what it was like, if they ever knew.

To the victim, the helpless adolescent overwhelmed with emotion, it is real.
In the eyes and mind of the one afflicted with feelings, it is vivid.
Even with the knowledge that it won't last long, it seems like it will stay forever.

To me, it is not easily overlooked.
To me, it is a matter of personal independence that stands in need of attention.
To me, the time of recovery is dependent upon the source.

For the girl that spends her nights in silent tears over matters she wishes were different, I have empathy.
For the boy who lies in the dark wondering what he did wrong, I feel sympathy.
For the one who looks to find release in the edge of a blade, I show compassion and concern.

To the wallflowers, I stand as a witness.
To the dandelions, I testify of beauty.
To the silent keepers, I make a promise:

You are not alone.
